You may be right. I guess we'll never know. But I think failing to go big


really hurt the Big East.

Had they allowed the 8 Big East BB schools remain a basketball division...
And then to get a whole other BB division made up of D1 football schools down the East Coast, it would have been massive.

Old Big East BB division: SYR, BC, PROV, UCONN, STJ, VIL, GT, SHU
New Big East BB division: PSU, PITT, WVU, LOU, VT, ECU, USC-e, MIA

And that would have been a 10 Football team conference with the growth potential for UConn and Villanova to became 1-A.

It would also have given the New BE BB division the chance to improve its program and profile by being in the Big East. And of course, Louisville was a power house back then.
